Bio/Background?

Grew up on the Whananaki coast with my father’s side of the family all being from that area and a lot of them coming from commercial cray fishing there or out of the Hokianga. 

At a very young age I was on the boat with my grandfather checking nets and pots learning about how not to grab a stingray/eagle ray caught up in the nets before releasing them.  

My father was a big fan of a good landbased mission with us spending lots of time in the far north at Spirits Bay and Tapotupotu Bay fishing off the rocks catching some good fish and getting the fire stoked for future missions with friends. 

My other loves are freediving for crays and other shellfish, fly fishing for trout or saltwater species. 

I used to do a fair bit of surfing and a lot of hunting when I could. 

Fishing area of speciality/favourite type of fishing?

My favourite fish to target would be the NZ kingfish with my first one being caught on my 7th birthday, the fire was well lit and I have been hooked ever since. 

Favourite way to target them is with topwater lures. 

Most Memorable Catch? 

Most memorable catch is a hard one to pick. One of late would be a day out with good mate Muzza where we got into some good action all on topwater. 

What Are Your Daiwa Essentials?

Essentials are Daiwa Saltiga reels. I use the 14k Saltiga the most as it is light enough for me to happily cast all day without getting tired but when the load comes on it has all the power needed to stop the big green backs.

One Of Your Favourite Spots? 

Favourite fishing spot would have to be at the Whangaroa game club just off the jetty… Quite often catch some cold drinks at this spot. Would recommend.
